House Awards Sustainable Architecture 2020

HOUSES Awards 2020 – Sustainability Category

With everything that is going on in the world right now, we’ve been a bit pre-occupied…
…so we completely forgot to announce that we’ve been shortlisted in the 2020 HOUSES Awards – Sustainability category for our Owl Woods Passive House project!

“The Owl Woods Passive House is a leading example of an architecturally designed certified Passivhaus. This pioneering project is world’s best practice in terms of performance, efficiency, resilience, durability, quality, beauty, comfort and occupant health. It demonstrates what is achievable, but also necessary for more climate-responsive and responsible buildings.”

We are honoured to be recognised for this award, as we are in the company of Australia’s most admirable and talented architects. There are some very beautiful architectural projects in the running – you can see the gallery of shortlisted entries here.

UPDATE: Winners were announced in a virtual awards ceremony on July 31st and can be seen here. (Not us!) CONGRATULATIONS to the winner Anthrosite for their ‘small & sustainable’ secondary dwelling, and congrats to the well-deserved commendations too, and all the incredibly worthy shortlisted entries! We’d love to see all award entries include sustainability criteria – not treat it as a separate category. All new homes (and all buildings) should be striving for higher levels of comfort, health and performance – our clients deserve this. To meet the declaration points of the “Architects Declare” movement, we do need to be reducing our emissions drastically (both operating energy and embodied energy from building-materials), whilst also learning from (and reconnecting with) nature to help heal our planet and our relationship with it.

These awards recognise the architects involved in the project; however we absolutely cannot take all the credit for the success of our projects. Each project relies on the collaborative teamwork of many participants – primarily our wonderful clients and great builders (Craftsmen Quality Builders) plus all our consultants and our photographer (Tatjana Plitt) for capturing the essence of the home to enable us to be involved in these awards programs – thank you all!
